CBS Overlooks Lead Stars’ Appeals to Save Cancelled Series “Blue Bloods”

CBS has chosen to disregard the appeals from the stars of Blue Bloods to reverse the decision to cancel the long-running series.

Following the announcement of the police drama’s cancellation, cast members Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, and Tom Selleck have expressed their discontent with the network’s choice. The decision may not have been entirely unexpected, as the show’s most recent season was only approved after the cast and producers agreed to a 25% pay cut. Nonetheless, both Wahlberg and Moynahan have expressed their disappointment, stating that “everybody’s really upset and sad” about the show’s conclusion with its 14th season.

Selleck, in particular, conveyed to CBS earlier this year that there are “an awful lot of people” who believe the show should continue. Despite these heartfelt appeals, CBS has confirmed that the show will indeed be concluding later this year.

During a discussion about CBS’s 2024 schedule on May 2, CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach reiterated that Blue Bloods will end with the second half of season 14 this autumn. “We really want to thank the cast and crew, everyone involved in the show,” Reisenbach said, as reported by Deadline. She added, “We absolutely will miss the family dinners. It is important to give the show the sendoff it deserves.”

Addressing the cast’s comments, Reisenbach acknowledged their passion for the series but emphasized that all shows must eventually come to an end. “It’s important to us to refresh the schedule. We are going to end the show come December,” she stated.

Premiering in 2010, Blue Bloods follows fictional New York City police commissioner Frank Reagan (Selleck) and his children, who all work within law enforcement. At the time of the cancellation announcement, Selleck expressed his gratitude, saying, “For the past 13 years it has been an honor and a privilege to work on a show that not only celebrates the men and women who protect and serve in New York City but also highlights the importance of family.”

He continued, “Working alongside these incredible actors, writers, producers, directors, and crew has been a dream come true, and I’m grateful to have been a part of this extraordinary group for over 275 episodes. Thank you to CBS Studios and CBS Network for their steadfast support and to the fans who joined us for dinner every Friday night.”

The series also features Will Estes, Len Cariou, and Jennifer Esposito.
