CBS Replaces ‘Blue Bloods’ with New Cop Show, Shifts Time Slot by Two Hours

Blue Bloods Spoilers and Updates: The End of an Era as CBS Cancels the Show

The long-running series Blue Bloods is sadly coming to an end, and even some of the cast members are questioning CBS’s decision. The series finale is set to air on Friday, December 13, at 10/9c, marking the conclusion of a beloved show that has captured the hearts of many viewers. On the same evening, CBS will air a special tribute and retrospective, celebrating the impact Blue Bloods has had over the years.

CBS has stated that parting ways with long-standing shows like Blue Bloods is necessary to keep their programming fresh. While loyal fans continue to support these classic series, the network is focused on attracting newer audiences with fresh content in hopes of keeping them engaged.

Blue Bloods Faces Cancellation Alongside Other Long-Running Hits

In the previous TV season, CBS canceled several popular, long-running series, including NCIS: Hawai’i, CSI: Vegas, and Blue Bloods. Though S.W.A.T. was also initially set to be canceled, CBS later decided to give it one final season in response to passionate pleas from the show’s star, Shemar Moore, and his fans. Despite the efforts of Blue Bloods’ fans and cast members, the show will not be returning.

Following Blue Bloods’ cancellation, S.W.A.T. will take over the 10/9c time slot on Fridays, with the final season of S.W.A.T. premiering on January 31, 2025.

Tom Selleck Speaks Out Against CBS’s Decision

Tom Selleck, who stars as Frank Reagan on Blue Bloods, has expressed his frustration with the decision to end the series. “I’m a bit frustrated,” Selleck shared in an interview with TV Insider. “Instead of focusing on how Blue Bloods is wrapping up in these last eight episodes, I want to talk about its incredible success.”

Selleck pointed out that without counting any special broadcasts like football games, Blue Bloods was the sixth most-watched program of the 2023-2024 season, highlighting the show’s ongoing popularity. While he insists there’s no personal resentment, he finds it hard to believe another series could replicate the same level of success over such a long period.

While S.W.A.T. may not have reached the same level of fame as Blue Bloods, the show has its own dedicated fanbase that should help it carry forward in its final season.
