“Chris Pratt Almost Headlined TV Reboot of Kevin Costner’s Classic Baseball Film”

Chris Pratt was reportedly on track to lead a TV reboot of the 1989 film Field of Dreams, based on W. P. Kinsella’s 1982 novel Shoeless Joe. The original movie, featuring Kevin Costner as a farmer who builds a magical baseball diamond, was a box office success and earned three Academy Award nominations.

According to Puck, the reboot for Peacock was developed by Mike Schur, known for The Good Place and Parks and Recreation, and was set to shoot at Fenway Park in Boston. Pratt was initially cast as the lead in the show, which had a substantial $15 million budget per episode. However, Pratt and Schur left the project abruptly, causing Peacock to lose confidence in Schur’s replacement, Bill Heck, due to the high costs and the sudden lack of an A-list star.

Had Pratt stayed, the reboot might have been a major hit for the streaming platform, with its strong cast including Kristen Bell, William Jackson Harper, Nick Offerman, and Andre Braugher. The show could have potentially expanded the Field of Dreams story beyond the film’s original ending. Since 2015, Pratt has only led in The Terminal List on Prime Video, which has already spawned a successful franchise. The fate of Field of Dreams might have mirrored this success had Pratt remained involved.
