“Chris Pratt’s Near-Major Blunder: Rebooting Kevin Costner’s $84 Million Classic Into a High-Budget Show”

Before the general public grew weary of seeing Chris Pratt everywhere, the actor was reportedly set to star in a TV remake of an iconic ‘80s film. Pratt was lined up to headline a series based on Kevin Costner’s beloved classic Field of Dreams, with his Parks and Recreation showrunner Michael Schur at the helm.

According to recent reports, Pratt abruptly exited the project, which was expected to have a staggering budget of $15 million per episode. For context, the original film was made with a $15 million budget and went on to earn $84 million at the box office. Pratt’s sudden departure may have spared him from what could have been a high-risk endeavor, given the film’s storied legacy.

Field of Dreams (1989) remains a cherished classic, and was Kevin Costner’s second film focusing on baseball, following Bull Durham. Despite the studio’s initial concerns about casting Costner in consecutive baseball films, the original Field of Dreams achieved remarkable success.

The reboot was set to be developed by Peacock, with Michael Schur—known for The Office and Parks and Recreation—as the showrunner. Pratt was rumored to play the same role as Costner in the original, but his abrupt exit left the show in limbo. Fans were relieved by the news of Pratt stepping down.

Puck reported that the show’s budget was slated to be $15 million per episode, mirroring the original film’s entire production cost. After Pratt’s departure, Schur reportedly cast Bill Heck, known for The Old Man, but Peacock was reportedly uncertain about this new choice.
