“Exploring the Strong Bond Between Kelly Reilly and Kevin Costner in Yellowstone”
During their time on Yellowstone, Kevin Costner and Kelly Reilly forged a heartfelt friendship. The co-stars, who play the father-daughter duo John and Beth Dutton, worked closely together for several years before Kevin, 69, announced his exit from the show in 2023. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kelly, 47, shared insights about John’s exit storyline in Season 5B. “It changes nothing for Beth’s desire to protect her family’s legacy; in fact, it becomes more urgent,” she explained.
The show is set to feel different when it returns in November. Throughout their collaboration, Kelly has often expressed her admiration for Kevin. “We’ve been working closely together for five years now, and I love him so much,” she said to Gold Derby. “For Beth, her most central relationship is with her father; there’s so much history there.”
Kelly has been consistently complimentary about Kevin in various interviews. “He’s honestly one of the nicest, most generous actors I’ve worked with. We get along so well, and we share a really fun relationship. He’s incredible on the show, and I have a lot of respect for his work. I could watch him all day; I’m learning so much from him.”
When asked if Kevin offers her advice, Kelly mentioned that while he hasn’t explicitly given her lessons, she admires his acting style. “I appreciate his stillness as an actor, which teaches me indirectly,” she said. Throughout their time on Yellowstone, they’ve tackled challenging emotional scenes together. “We really take care of one another,” Kelly noted in a joint interview. “I feel like he looks out for me. We’re a team.”
Kevin playfully joked, “She’s unmanageable!” leaving Kelly in laughter.
After Kevin’s departure, Kelly has remained tight-lipped about the situation. Although Kevin stated he’s “not finished” with Yellowstone, he won’t appear in Season 5B. Back in June, he confirmed his absence in a heartfelt video message, saying, “After this long year and a half working on Horizon and reflecting on Yellowstone, I realized I won’t be able to continue with Season 5B or beyond. It was a transformative experience for me, and I loved it. I know you did too. I wanted to express my gratitude for the relationship we developed, and I’ll see you at the movies.”
