“Horizon: A Westward Saga featuring Kevin Costner on Stan”
Horizon: An American Saga on Stan
Stan today announced that Horizon: An American Saga, a sweeping epic chronicling the Civil War, westward expansion, and settlement of the American frontier, starring Kevin Costner, will begin streaming exclusively on Stan from September 26.
Actor, filmmaker, and Stan Exclusive series Yellowstone star Kevin Costner directs this ambitious cinematic journey, which recently premiered to rave reviews at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, earning an impressive eleven-minute standing ovation. Horizon: An American Saga delves into the allure of the Old West and the profound sacrifices—blood, sweat, and tears—that shaped its history.
Spanning the four turbulent years of the Civil War from 1861 to 1865, the film explores a nation divided, telling the story through the eyes of families, friends, and foes as they struggle to define what it means to be the United States of America.
This deeply personal project sees Costner not only directing and starring but also producing and co-writing the film.
Costner shared:
“I have a huge passion for storytelling and filmmaking. This project was a labor of love—I financed it myself, even mortgaging my own property to make my vision a reality.”
Joining Costner are an outstanding ensemble cast including Sienna Miller (Alfie), Sam Worthington (Stan Original Film Transfusion), Giovanni Ribisi (Saving Private Ryan), Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road), Will Patton (Yellowstone), Jena Malone (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy), Danny Huston (The Aviator), Luke Wilson (The Royal Tenenbaums), Isabelle Fuhrman (The Novice), Ella Hunt (Lady Chatterley’s Lover), Owen Crow Shoe (The Revenant), Tatanka Means (Killers of the Flower Moon), Tim Guinee (Iron Man), Scott Haze (Jurassic World Dominion), Tom Payne (The Walking Dead), Alejandro Edda (American Made), and Jaime Campbell Bower (The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones).
Horizon: An American Saga marks Costner’s return to directing for the first time since his 2003 critically acclaimed film Open Range. It revisits the Civil War-era America that was also the backdrop for his 1990 blockbuster and directorial debut, Dances with Wolves, which won seven Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director.
Costner co-wrote the screenplay with Jon Baird (The Explorers Guild) and produces through his Territory Pictures, alongside producers Howard Kaplan and Mark Gillard. Executive producers include Danny Peykoff, Robert Scannell, Armyan Bernstein, Charlie Lyons, Barry Berg, and Rod Lake.
Horizon: An American Saga streams exclusively on Stan from September 26.
