“Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2: Foundations of the Present”

In “Yellowstone,” Kevin Costner’s John Dutton would traverse any distance to safeguard his family. Similarly, in real life, nothing seems capable of deterring the actor from his ambitious quest: directing and starring in his four-part Western saga, “Horizon: An American Saga.” The first installment struggled to gain traction earlier this summer. Critics were unimpressed at the Cannes Film Festival, and the film fell short at the box office. Yet, Costner’s determination remains unshaken.

At this year’s Venice Film Festival, Costner debuted “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2,” merely two months after the second film was initially slated for theatrical release but then pulled from the schedule. “It didn’t have overwhelming success,” Costner admitted to reporters, as noted by Variety. “I’ve had a lot of movies that way that have stood the test of time.” Originally, New Line Cinema had planned for the second film to release just six weeks after the first. Following the first film’s lackluster performance, the studio removed Chapter 2 from its release calendar. Currently, there is no set release date for the sequel. “For me, it fell back into my plan, which was to release the movies about five to six months apart,” Costner explained. “When I face rejection, my desire to push forward only grows stronger.”

What Can We Expect from Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2? The first film introduced Costner as Hayes Ellison, a horse trader who rescues a woman and her son from a deranged killer. Set in late 1800s Montana, the film features various interconnected stories, beginning with an Apache uprising in the town of Horizon and culminating in the extended family of the deceased setting out on the Santa Fe Trail for revenge.

Chapter 2 is set to follow the survivors as they gear up for their next challenge. Returning cast members including Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, Giovanni Ribisi, Thomas Haden Church, and others will reprise their roles from the first film. According to the film’s logline, it offers a “multi-faceted depiction of the Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West.”

When Will Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 Be Released? Although Chapter 2 premiered at the Venice Film Festival, there is no current plan for the film to hit theaters. Costner hopes that, similar to the first film’s Cannes debut, the Venice premiere will spark renewed interest in the franchise. He also remains committed to completing his four-part epic, expressing determination to make the remaining films despite current uncertainties. “I don’t know how I’m going to make ‘Three’ right now,” he told reporters at the Venice press conference. “But I’m going to make it.”
