‘Horizon’ Star, 63, Confident Kevin Costner’s Western Will Triumph: “There’s No Stopping It”
Kevin Costner may have wrapped up his role at the Dutton ranch after Yellowstone’s final season aired last year, but the veteran Taylor Sheridan collaborator isn’t ready to step away from Westerns just yet. Costner left Yellowstone to focus on Horizon: An American Saga, which he has described as the biggest passion project of his career.
The first chapter of this sprawling Western epic premiered last year but received mixed reviews and underwhelming box office numbers. As a result, the already-filmed sequel was pulled from the release schedule indefinitely. Nearly a year later, there’s still no word on when Chapter 2 will hit audiences.
Speaking to ScreenRant while promoting Consecration, Horizon star Danny Huston remained optimistic about the franchise’s future despite the setbacks:
“I am absolutely bated breath anticipating. I can’t wait to see the second chapter. It’s such a big document, an epic dream of a film. It’s like a steam engine that’s coming at us, and it won’t stop. There’s no stopping it. But it’s working at its own pace.”
Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 began streaming on Netflix earlier this year but will leave the platform on July 15. It’s still unclear if or where the film will be available next. Meanwhile, Chapter 2 premiered at last year’s Venice International Film Festival but was met with lukewarm reviews, earning a 54% “rotten” score on Rotten Tomatoes. If the sequel struggles to find a distributor or perform well, plans for the third and fourth chapters of the saga could be in jeopardy.
Alongside Costner, the Horizon cast includes Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Giovanni Ribisi, Scott Haze, Michael Rooker, and others.
Has Kevin Costner Ever Won an Oscar?
Yes. Kevin Costner has won two Oscars, both for the same film. Over 30 years ago, he starred in and directed Dances with Wolves (1990), which won Best Picture and earned Costner the Best Director award. He was also nominated for Best Actor for his role but didn’t win. In addition, Costner received an Emmy nomination for his work on the 2012 miniseries Hatfields & McCoys, which is currently not streaming anywhere. He has also earned smaller accolades for his performance in Yellowstone.
