How About a New Blue Bloods Spin-Off? It Would Be Great to See Tom Selleck Return!

CBS’ hit drama Blue Bloods is still slated to join a wave of shows ending in 2024. Despite this, fans and star Tom Selleck have expressed their desire for the show to continue, citing its impressive ratings on CBS and Paramount+. However, while the future of the existing Blue Bloods seems secure for now, there’s buzz about a completely different Blue Bloods project in the works. If Selleck were to look for a new role post-Blue Bloods, this new project might be a surprising opportunity.

The new Blue Bloods is based on a popular novel series by Melissa de la Cruz, diverging significantly from the current show’s focus on NYPD officers and legal drama. Instead, this adaptation delves into a world of vampires. The rights to de la Cruz’s series have been acquired by Awesomeness, a division of Paramount Digital Studios, aligning it with the same entertainment family as CBS’ Blue Bloods. To avoid confusion, the title of the new project is expected to be altered.

The story is set in a New York City secretly controlled by vampires. The plot kicks off with the disappearance of a prominent vampire, triggering fears of an ancient breed’s resurgence. Simultaneously, the narrative follows 17-year-old Sky, the first human/vampire hybrid, who discovers a sinister force threatening vampire society.

Jacquie Walters, known for her work on family-friendly series like Prime Video’s Just Add Magic and Disney+’s Big Shot, will adapt the novels for television. Walters will also serve as an executive producer alongside Melissa de la Cruz. Walters has previously worked on an ABC pilot based on Emily Bleeker’s novel Wreckage, directed by Mark Webb.

Melissa de la Cruz expressed her enthusiasm for the adaptation, stating:

“I am thrilled to bring my beloved Blue Bloods series to life with the amazing team at Awesomeness, Gotham, 3Arts, and our talented writer Jacquie Walters. I can’t wait to see my characters and story on screen!”

Fans of de la Cruz might recognize her from Witches of East End, adapted from her The Beauchamp Family series for Lifetime, or her work on tie-in novels for Disney’s Descendants.
