“Is a Blue Bloods Spinoff on the Way? Here’s What We Know!”
Blue Bloods Spinoff or TV Movie? Here’s What We Know So Far
While Blue Bloods has officially wrapped up its 14-season run, rumors of a potential spinoff or TV movie continue to swirl, leaving fans hopeful for more. Here’s the latest on what could be next for the Blue Bloods franchise.
Blue Bloods Spinoff – Is It Happening?
Though CBS decided to bring the beloved procedural to a close, there have been talks about continuing the Blue Bloods story through a spinoff or TV movie. These discussions gained momentum earlier this year, when Paramount Global co-CEO Brian Robbins hinted at “new franchise extensions” during a stockholders meeting in June. This was the first sign that CBS was considering expanding the Blue Bloods universe, igniting excitement among fans.
However, the specifics of these extensions remain unclear, and while the idea of a spinoff sparked buzz, CBS has yet to make any formal announcements.
Not Anything in the Works—Yet
CBS Studios President David Stapf tempered expectations just a month later, stating that the network did not have any immediate plans for a spinoff or TV movie. In an interview with Deadline, he explained, “We don’t have any immediate plans for development, but it’s a cherished brand and show. We want to ensure we get it right, so we’re taking our time to determine what the next chapter of Blue Bloods will look like.” According to Stapf, there’s still time to honor the legacy of the series and consider future possibilities, but nothing is moving forward at the moment.
New Hope for a Blue Bloods Revival?
In August, new hope emerged when sources revealed to Closer that there had been discussions about creating made-for-TV movies based on Blue Bloods. The idea of reviving the series or exploring a new project tied to the Blue Bloods universe gained more traction when Donnie Wahlberg teased the possibility during a New Kids on the Block concert. He hinted there might be “something else after” what was assumed to be the final season.
Wahlberg expanded on this in an interview with TV Insider, saying that if a spinoff were approached with the same level of care and attention as the original series, he’d be excited to watch or participate in it. The rest of the Blue Bloods cast echoed his sentiments, suggesting that they too would be open to returning in some capacity.
Tom Selleck Weighs In
Tom Selleck, who plays the iconic Frank Reagan, has also expressed his openness to future Blue Bloods projects. In an interview with Parade, he shared his affection for his character and said he’d be open to exploring more stories if the opportunity arose. “Nobody’s really asked, but I don’t see him retiring and going off somewhere,” Selleck commented, hinting that Frank Reagan could still have more to give.
With several cast members voicing their interest and the show concluding on a positive note for the Reagan family, there’s certainly room for a potential spinoff or TV movie. However, while the idea isn’t entirely off the table, CBS has not made any concrete moves to develop anything just yet.
What’s Next for Blue Bloods?
While the Blue Bloods franchise may not be dead, for now, there’s no definitive plan for its continuation beyond the final season. Whether a spinoff, TV movie, or even a full revival could be in the cards remains to be seen. Fans, however, can hold on to the hope that the Reagan family might one day return in some form to the small screen. For now, all we can do is wait and see.
