Jake Gyllenhaal and Kevin Costner to Star in Long-Awaited Dramedy Honeymoon With Harry

It’s a well-known Hollywood fact: unless you’re Hallmark, Steven Soderbergh, or Osgood Perkins, making movies can take a seriously long time. But even by Tinseltown’s famously slow standards, Honeymoon With Harry has been in the works forever. Originally picked up by New Line back in 2004 with Vince Vaughn and Jack Nicholson eyed for the leads, the project later shifted to Warner Bros. in 2015 with Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro attached. At one point, it seemed destined to become just another script lost to development limbo.

Now, after years of waiting, Jake Gyllenhaal and Kevin Costner are set to bring the story to life. Amazon MGM Studios recently acquired the rights to the film, with the creative trio behind Crazy, Stupid, Love — Dan Fogelman, Glenn Ficarra, and John Requa — joining the project. Fogelman, currently busy writing Season 2 of Paradise, is penning the script, while Ficarra and Requa will co-direct.

Based on Bart Baker’s novel, Honeymoon With Harry follows Gyllenhaal’s character, a man whose fiancée dies tragically just days before their wedding. In the wake of his loss, he unexpectedly goes on honeymoon with his would-be father-in-law, played by Costner. The story explores their bittersweet and complicated relationship, blending humor and heartache.

Fogelman has been attached to the script since Cooper was set to direct, so fans can expect the emotional depth and nuanced character dynamics he’s known for — think This Is Us vibes. The long-awaited pairing of Gyllenhaal and Costner, combined with a story that’s been years in the making, has us eagerly anticipating the day Honeymoon With Harry finally hits the big screen. Now all that’s left is to find out when it’ll arrive — stay tuned!
