Jesse Lee Soffer Hints at Jay Hayden’s ‘FBI: International’ Role: A ‘Bad Angel’ on Wes’ Shoulder
There’s still much to learn about the Fly Team’s new leader, Supervisory Special Agent Wes Mitchell (Jesse Lee Soffer). However, the introduction of a recurring guest star—Jay Hayden from Station 19—could shed some light on his backstory. Hayden will appear as Agent Tyler Booth, who arrives in Budapest seeking help on a case in Season 4 of FBI: International.
Soffer shared with TV Insider, “I’m excited to have one of my best friends, Jay Hayden, joining us for a significant arc as a character from Wes’ past. He was an old partner, and they’ve shared some intense experiences together.”
He elaborated on their dynamic, saying, “There’s a great relationship between our characters, and I think our chemistry will shine through on screen. It’ll be a treat for viewers since we’ve both been in different shows, and now we get to share the same universe.”
Hayden’s character is described as “a bad angel on his shoulder,” according to Soffer. “Wes already follows his own instincts, and Tyler Booth only amplifies that tendency, acting as a bad influence. Meanwhile, Smitty [Eva-Jane Willis] plays the role of the good angel, cautioning them with, ‘Hey, what are you two thinking?’ This creates a fun dynamic that fans will enjoy.”
Soffer noted that the most significant clashes will be between Wes and Smitty. “Wes doesn’t adhere to procedure and operates outside the lines, which frustrates Smitty. This sets the stage for intriguing relationship dynamics as they grapple with how much trouble Wes might bring to the team.”
