“John Dutton Returns in New ‘Yellowstone’ Trailer After Kevin Costner’s Departure”
In the explosive new trailer for the second half of “Yellowstone” Season 5, John Dutton declares, “This war is just beginning.”
Despite Kevin Costner’s official exit from the series, his presence is still felt. Costner, who has portrayed the patriarch of Yellowstone Ranch since the show’s debut in 2018, announced in June that he would not return to film new scenes or continue with the series.
The new trailer, released on Tuesday, features previous footage of Costner’s Dutton, aiming to reignite interest ahead of the Paramount Network premiere on November 10. “Everyone’s forgotten who runs this valley,” Costner’s voiceover begins, asserting, “Time to remind them.”
As images of Dutton’s family flash on screen, viewers see Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) taking on central roles in the ongoing saga. “Our family legacy is this ranch,” Beth declares, while Rip vows, “And I’ll protect it with my life.”
However, threats loom, particularly from estranged son Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) and his political ally, Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri). Beth concludes the trailer ominously: “The only thing left to do is to kill as much as you can before they kill you.”
After extensive negotiations over pay and filming schedules—complicated by Costner’s commitments to his “Horizon” movie franchise—he confirmed his departure in a June 20 video, stating, “I just wanted to let you know I won’t be returning.”
Costner’s first film in the “Horizon” series, “Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1,” released on June 28, did not perform well at the box office, leading to uncertainty about the future of the sequel.
