Kelly Reilly’s Key Condition for Returning as Beth Dutton in Yellowstone

“Yellowstone” fans faced uncertainty with Kevin Costner’s departure from the show, as he played the pivotal role of John Dutton. His exit left many wondering if the series could continue, especially with the announcement that season 5, part 2 would be its final chapter.

However, new reports indicate that Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser are in discussions to star in a potential sixth season, sparking hope among fans. Reilly, who portrays Dutton’s daughter Beth, and Hauser, who plays ranch foreman Rip Wheeler, were previously thought to be shifting to the upcoming spin-off, “Madison.” Their potential return to the main series adds to the confusion surrounding the show’s future after Costner’s controversial exit.

It’s important to note that no official announcements have been made, and contracts are still pending. Reilly has made it clear that her return hinges on the involvement of Taylor Sheridan, the show’s creator.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Reilly confirmed ongoing talks about a new chapter for the series, stating, “There’s potentially another chapter, it’s being talked about now.” She emphasized that while nothing is finalized, her willingness to return depends on Sheridan’s participation, saying, “If Taylor wants to write it, I would want to do it. He’s the one that’s written every single line I’ve ever said.” Reilly acknowledged that the series needs to evolve, remarking, “You can’t keep telling the same story. This story is ending… but if there is more story to tell with some of the characters, it’s going to be a little different.”

As for what that new direction might entail, details remain unclear. “Yellowstone” is set to release season 5, part 2 in December. While initially believed to be the series finale, the lack of finality in the promotional material hints that Paramount may still be keen on extending the flagship series. Given the teaser’s absence of a farewell tone, it seems there’s potential for the story of the Dutton Ranch to continue, even if Reilly is correct that “‘Yellowstone’ as we know it is ending.”
