Kevin Costner, 70, Vows to Keep Working: ‘Retirement Not on My Radar’

Kevin Costner Has No Plans to Retire

At 70 years old, Kevin Costner insists that retirement is not something he even considers. The actor, known for his long and varied career, says he is always driven by curiosity and the desire to explore new opportunities.

“I don’t think about retiring,” he said. “I just move on to the next thing that sparks my imagination.”

For Costner, it’s creativity and passion that guide his choices, not a strict schedule or external pressure. “Imagination is what drives me, not a boss. Everyone’s path is unique, and we all have different experiences.”

Reflecting on his journey, he added, “I’ve been very fortunate in life. I’d like to believe I earned it, but not everyone follows the same blueprint.”

Though he doesn’t keep a traditional “bucket list” for his career, Costner looks for projects that bring him personal fulfillment and delight audiences. “I don’t see it as a list, but my eyes and enthusiasm are wide open,” he said.

“I love imagining what I can do next, what kind of difference I can make—not just for myself, but for others. It’s exciting to think about all the possibilities.”

Costner recently shared that he’s drawn to stories that avoid typical heroic clichés. He admires the quiet heroism found in everyday life. “True heroism is often unseen. It’s like the woman who works three jobs, waiting for the early bus, exhausted by evening but still making a meal for her kids. That kind of strength and dedication is real power.”

He believes these stories show us who truly matters. “When we highlight these moments with music or film, we realize who the real heroes are—the people making sacrifices in their own families every day.”
