Kevin Costner Aims to Shoot Horizon Chapters 3 and 4 Back-to-Back in 2025

Kevin Costner’s ambitious passion project hasn’t quite achieved the success he hoped for, but he remains undeterred. Although the reception for the first chapter of Horizon: An American Saga was cooler than anticipated, and Warner Bros. recently removed Chapter 2 from its release schedule, the film will still make its debut at the Venice Film Festival next month. Costner expressed his appreciation for the opportunity, stating, “My dream was always to showcase Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter Two at the Venice Film Festival. I’m deeply grateful to [Venice Film Fest director] Alberto Barbera for his bold support of this cinematic journey. It is with heartfelt thanks and excitement that I return to the Venice Film Festival. Long live the movies and those who champion them.”

While Chapter 2 is set to premiere at the festival, Warner Bros.’ plans for its official release remain unclear. Despite this uncertainty, World of Reel reports that Costner is determined to push forward with the saga. He has already filmed nine days of footage for Chapter 3 but had to pause production due to financial constraints. Costner shared with NBC his intention to resume filming both Chapters 3 and 4 back-to-back in the spring of 2025. “The plan is to shoot the third chapter, and then proceed with the fourth, all in one go next spring. I’m passionate about this project. It’s been the toughest undertaking of my career, but I’m proud of the second chapter and eager to tackle the even greater challenges of the third and fourth chapters, which will complete the story.”

Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 is set to premiere on Max soon, and its rental price has recently dropped from $19.99 to $5.99 on Prime Video.

Though the film has struggled with critical reception, holding a 47% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it has received a more favorable audience score of 71%. In his review, Chris Bumbray noted, “Horizon feels like an appetizer before the main course, doing heavy lifting in terms of setup. The film leaves viewers wanting more, and I believe it will be more appreciated once subsequent installments are released. I found it thoroughly engaging, and if Chapter 2 were available now, I’d dive straight into it. I’m eagerly anticipating more of Costner’s epic saga.”
