Kevin Costner and Jake Gyllenhaal Team Up for ‘Honeymoon with Harry’ at Amazon MGM
Kevin Costner and Jake Gyllenhaal to Star in Long-Awaited Dramedy Honeymoon with Harry for Amazon MGM
After more than two decades in development, Honeymoon with Harry is finally moving forward — with Kevin Costner and Jake Gyllenhaal officially set to star. Amazon MGM has acquired the rights to the long-gestating project, which has captivated Hollywood for over 20 years.
Directing duo Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Crazy, Stupid, Love, I Love You Phillip Morris) have signed on to helm the feature. The script, penned by Dan Fogelman (This Is Us, Crazy, Stupid, Love), is based on a previously unpublished novel by Bart Baker.
The story follows a man (played by Gyllenhaal) who, after the sudden death of his fiancée just two days before their wedding, finds himself embarking on the would-be honeymoon with her estranged father (Costner).
The film also marks a producing milestone: it will be the debut project from former Amazon MGM head Jennifer Salke, producing through her new banner, Sullivan Street Productions. Dan Fogelman and Mike Karz of Gulfstream Pictures are also producing.
Karz originally brought Honeymoon with Harry to New Line Cinema in 2004. Since then, it has seen numerous high-profile iterations, with names like Paul Haggis, Vince Vaughn, Jack Nicholson, Jonathan Demme, Jenny Lumet, Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, and Nick Cassavetes all attached at various points. Despite all the near-misses, Karz held onto the Fogelman version and ultimately found a new home for the project at Amazon MGM.
This reunion also strengthens the partnership between Gulfstream and the studio, following Karz’s work on recent Amazon titles like Upgraded (starring Camila Mendes) and One Fast Move (with KJ Apa and Eric Dane).
For Gyllenhaal, the role continues his relationship with Amazon following the massive success of Road House, one of the streamer’s biggest hits to date. He’s also riding high off an Emmy nomination for his performance in Presumed Innocent on Apple TV+.
Costner, meanwhile, steps back into a major studio role following his time on Yellowstone and his self-funded epic Western series Horizon: An American Saga. So far, only the first two parts have been filmed, with just the first installment released.
Gyllenhaal is represented by WME and Goodman, Genow. Costner is also repped by WME. Ficarra and Requa are with CAA and McKuin Frankel, while Fogelman is repped by WME.
