On Thursday, September 5, Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon, stars of the beloved 1988 romantic sports comedy Bull Durham, reunited at the Better World Fund Gala during the 81st Venice International Film Festival in Venice, Italy.
After the event, Costner, 69, took to Instagram to share a heartwarming photo of the two. “There’s nothing like catching up with an old friend. Great to see you @susansarandon—we’ve come a long way since our Bull Durham days,” he wrote in the caption.
Costner expressed his pride in supporting the Better World Fund’s mission alongside Sarandon. The nonprofit aims to “raise awareness and funds to promote humanitarian action and sustainable development worldwide.” At the gala, Costner wore a sleek black suit while Sarandon dazzled in a long-sleeved black gown, accessorized with a statement necklace and large belt.
The Instagram photo captured the duo smiling warmly, with Sarandon’s hand resting on Costner’s leg as he placed his arm around her. Costner also included a nostalgic throwback image from Bull Durham, showing Sarandon with her arm around Costner, who was holding a baseball bat.
Bull Durham, written and directed by Ron Shelton, follows the story of veteran baseball catcher Crash Davis (Costner), who is hired to mentor rookie Ebby Calvin “Nuke” LaLoosh (Tim Robbins). Complications arise when both men become romantically involved with Annie Savoy (Sarandon), a baseball enthusiast and groupie.
