Kevin Costner Announces He Won’t Return to ‘Yellowstone’: “I Loved It and I Know You Loved It”

Kevin Costner has officially moved on from “Yellowstone.” The actor has confirmed that he will not return for the final episodes of the hit Paramount Network series, putting an end to speculation about his involvement in the show’s concluding moments.

Costner made his announcement through a social media video, recorded during the day but posted on Thursday evening. In the video, he reflects on his time with the series and his current focus on promoting his Western epic, “Horizon.”

“After a year and a half of working on ‘Horizon’ and considering ‘Yellowstone,’ a series I deeply cherish and know you do too, I’ve come to the realization that I won’t be able to continue with Season 5B or beyond,” Costner said. “The show was a transformative experience for me, and while I loved it, and I know you did as well, I won’t be returning. I’ve valued the relationships I’ve built and look forward to seeing you at the movies.”

The first half of “Yellowstone” Season 5 aired in fall 2022 with Costner reprising his role as John Dutton. The final six episodes have faced delays due to development issues and strikes, but are now in production, with a premiere date set for November 10.

Costner’s decision comes after he had previously hinted at a possible return under “the right circumstances” during an appearance on the Today show. Despite expressing his love for the series, Costner has now firmly ruled out any chance of reappearing in the final episodes.
