Kevin Costner at 70: Feeling Great and Focused on Himself, Not Romance (Exclusive)
Kevin Costner Reflects on Turning 70: Focused on Family, Films, and Enjoying Life – Not Romance
As Kevin Costner marks his 70th birthday on Saturday, Jan. 18, a source close to the Oscar-winning actor says he’s in a “good place” — spending quality time with his loved ones and embracing the next chapter of his life with optimism and gratitude.
“He’s happy, enjoying life with his family and friends,” the source shares. “He’s not in a serious relationship right now, and he’s okay with that. He’s not actively looking for anything more.”
Costner, a father of seven, has been cherishing time with his children: Annie, 40, Lily, 38, Joe, 36, Liam, 28, Cayden, 17, Hayes, 15, and Grace, 14. Family has remained his grounding force, especially following his divorce from Christine Baumgartner, which was finalized in February 2024.
Over the past year, Costner has poured much of his energy into Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1, the first installment of his passion project. Though the film saw modest success in theaters, Costner remained unfazed, telling audiences at the Venice Film Festival in September 2024: “I’ve had a lot of movies that way, that have stood the test of time.”
Now available on Netflix and Max, Horizon is something Costner holds dear. “It’s a project he’s worked on for years,” the source explains. “And while he understands that moviegoing habits have changed, he’s optimistic about the future of the series, especially with its performance on streaming platforms.”
Costner gave fans a glimpse into his family life last Thanksgiving when he posted a rare photo with most of his children (excluding Liam). “Hoping you guys had a wonderful Thanksgiving with the people you love most,” he wrote at the time. “At the top of my ‘grateful for’ list are the many really, really special memories I’ve gotten to make with my kids this year. Here’s to a holiday season dedicated to making more.”
According to the source, the Field of Dreams star has been spending lots of time with his children — and his dog — over the past few months. “Kevin is genuine, grounded, and in many ways, old-school,” the source adds. “He stays busy with projects and interests, and he’s enjoying life on his own terms.”
