Kevin Costner at 70: Why He’s Not Slowing Down

Kevin Costner at 70: Driven by Passion, Not Retirement

At 70, Kevin Costner shows no signs of slowing down. The Hollywood legend recently shared that retirement isn’t part of his plan, as his passion for storytelling and creativity continues to fuel his work.

Currently, Costner is pouring his energy into Horizon: An American Saga, a personal passion project that highlights his enduring drive and imagination.

“I don’t even think about retiring, because I’ll just move to the next thing that captures my imagination,” he said.

A Career Shaped by Creative Vision

With a decades-long career behind him, Costner remains driven by a deep love for storytelling rather than external expectations.

“My imagination is what determines what I do, not a boss,” he explained. “We’re all different, and we have different things happening for us.”

Costner also reflected on his unique journey, expressing gratitude for the path he’s carved.

“I’ve felt really lucky in my life. I’d like to think that I worked for all of it, but not everybody can live by the same blueprint.”

Looking Ahead With Enthusiasm

Since his early days in Sizzle Beach in the 1980s, Costner has remained a prominent figure in Hollywood, earning critical acclaim and numerous awards. Yet, despite his success, he continues to look forward rather than back.

“I don’t have a bucket list. I have a list, but I don’t refer to it that way,” he said. “My eyes and enthusiasm are wide open.”

He added that his motivation lies in pursuing projects that spark excitement and make a meaningful impact—on himself and others.

“I’ve enjoyed life and imagining what I can do. What can I be about? What makes a difference?”

“The Best May Still Be Ahead”

Costner has hinted before that his most meaningful work might still be in the future. When asked if he’d considered retirement, he replied:

“I really feel like some of the great surprises I have are in front of me. I’ve been doing a lot of writing, and there are projects I still want to do.”

He emphasized that his life extends beyond the screen.

“My life is a lot more than movies. I just periodically pop up in them. In between, I’m living my other life.”

Controversy Surrounding Horizon: An American Saga

Amid these reflections on his career and future, Costner has also faced serious controversy. A stunt performer, Devyn LaBella, recently filed a lawsuit against him in connection with a scene in Horizon: An American Saga.

LaBella alleges she was subjected to an unscripted and non-consensual rape scene on set in May 2023. According to her, the production lacked an intimacy coordinator despite contractual requirements, and she was pressured into filming a scene that went beyond her role as a stunt double.

She claims the scene, which was intended for actress Ella Hunt, involved aggressive and intimate actions she hadn’t consented to perform. After Hunt reportedly refused to participate, LaBella was asked to step in without adequate preparation or safety protocols.

The stunt performer described the experience as traumatic, stating she was left with lasting emotional harm and a sense of violation.
