Kevin Costner Breaks Silence on Yellowstone Finale and Luke Grimes ‘Feud’ in Shocking Video

Kevin Costner has addressed the shocking Yellowstone finale and his rumored rift with former co-star Luke Grimes.

The 69-year-old actor, who left the hit series amid tensions with showrunner Taylor Sheridan, was spotted in Aspen shortly after the finale aired and just weeks after his character, John Dutton, was written off in a staged suicide.

In an exclusive video, the Oscar-winning actor shared his thoughts on the finale, saying, “I’m not really thinking about [the Yellowstone finale], I haven’t given it much thought, we’ll just let it go.”

Costner also dismissed questions about his alleged feud with Grimes, who played his onscreen son, Kayce Dutton, and revealed that he hadn’t spoken to him since the finale aired.

In the show, Costner’s character John Dutton was unexpectedly killed off in a murder-for-hire plot at the start of Yellowstone’s season five part two. The show wasted no time revealing his death, staged as a suicide, following Costner’s departure due to scheduling conflicts with his own Western film franchise, Horizon.

In the wake of Costner’s exit, Grimes had previously shared his thoughts on how filming changed without the two-time Oscar winner. “Hopefully, everyone can see that it was time,” Grimes said, reflecting on the shift. “To be really honest, there was a part of Kevin being gone that meant some of the conflict was gone.”

He continued, “Obviously, it didn’t make it super fun to be around… Not pointing any fingers, but it was actually the easiest season we’ve filmed.”

Grimes was later asked by Men’s Health if he and Costner were still in contact. “No, I haven’t talked to him since,” Grimes responded. “It’s not a case of any hard feelings or anything; it’s just, he’s Kevin Costner. He’s a big deal. I do have his phone number – I just don’t feel like it’s my place to reach out. He can reach out to me if he wants.”

He added, “None of us saw it coming the way it did, and obviously, there was news about possible blowups behind the scenes. But just like in life, these things happen, they happen fast, and they’re not predictable.”

Grimes also compared the situation to personal experiences, saying, “I lost my father a few years ago. It happened fast, and it wasn’t the way you would think that would happen. In life, these things happen and people have to start making decisions.”
