Kevin Costner’s heart is now dedicated to a new puppy!
On Tuesday, the 69-year-old actor appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to promote his latest film, Horizon: An American Saga. However, the conversation quickly turned to his adorable new companion, Bob, much to the delight of the audience.
Fallon kicked off the discussion by showing a photo of the charming white Labrador, which Costner first introduced on Instagram earlier this year. He encouraged the actor to share more about this latest addition to his family.
“I got a buddy, his name’s Bob,” Costner said, eliciting laughter from the crowd. Fallon chimed in, “You named the dog Bob?” To which Costner replied, “Yeah, when I’m angry with him, it’s Bob. It’s Bobby when he’s being good.”
The cuteness escalated when Fallon revealed another photo of Bob snoozing peacefully on the door of an open dishwasher.
“He kind of waits for me to do the dishes. That’s a pretty good dog, right?” Costner quipped. “I do all the work, and he does everything else.”
Costner recounted the amusing story of discovering Bob napping in the dishwasher. “I had no idea he was there. I was doing the dishes—gotta do that as a single dad—and I thought, ‘Where is he?’” he joked, adding that he initially thought Bob was “too quiet” and “chewing on something.”
“I went to find him and ran right into the dishwasher, where I saw him sleeping. And, like everyone these days, I had to snap a picture,” he said with a laugh.
As Costner promotes his ambitious film project, Horizon: An American Saga, which he co-wrote, directed, and stars in, Bob has been a delightful presence during his press tour. The film, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and received an impressive 11-minute standing ovation, took Costner three decades to bring to life and will be released in four parts.
The first chapter arrives in theaters on June 28, followed by Chapter 2 on August 16, with the final two installments yet to be announced. Costner has described the film as a labor of love, focusing on the expansion and settlement of the American West during the pre- and post-Civil War era, featuring a talented cast including Sienna Miller, Luke Wilson, Jena Malone, Sam Worthington, and his son, Hayes.
In 2023, Costner revealed that he even mortgaged “10 acres on the water in Santa Barbara” to fund the project. When asked about his nerves leading up to the release, he expressed confidence: “I feel really good about what this movie means to me. It’s the kind of film I hoped someone would make for me.”
