Kevin Costner Reacts to Delay of Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2

The Yellowstone star acknowledged that the lackluster financial success of the original film led to the delay of the sequel. Despite this, Costner remains confident in the quality of his films. During a press conference at the Venice Film Festival, he remarked, “It didn’t have overwhelming success. I’ve had a lot of movies like that, which have stood the test of time.” Costner clarified that the delay was a decision made by the studio.

Originally slated for an August 16, 2024, release, the sequel’s theatrical debut was scrapped following the first film’s poor performance. Instead, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 was showcased at the Venice Film Festival on the event’s final day.

Costner on How the Delay Benefited His Plans

Despite the difficulties, Costner revealed that the delay ultimately aligned with his original strategy. “It fell back into my plan,” he said. “I always wanted to release movies about five to six months apart, which would have allowed me to attend Venice. I wouldn’t have had the chance to come here if the film had already been released.”

The franchise is planned to include a total of four films, according to Variety. Costner confirmed that the remaining two installments have been written and are expected to enter development soon. However, official release dates and details for the sequels have yet to be confirmed.
