“Kevin Costner Comments on Cancellation of ‘Horizon 2’ Release”

Kevin Costner has finally addressed the cancellation of the theatrical release for Horizon 2. He revealed that the decision was influenced by the underwhelming performance of the first film in the franchise.

At the film’s premiere during the Venice Film Festival, Costner reflected on the original movie’s reception, saying, “It didn’t achieve overwhelming success. I’ve had many films like that which have nonetheless stood the test of time.”

He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to have Horizon 2 premiere at Venice, explaining that the cancellation of the theatrical release actually aligned with his plans. “This turn of events allowed me to attend Venice, which would not have been possible if the film had been released earlier,” he said. “Venice doesn’t show films that have already premiered elsewhere.”

Costner also extended his thanks to Venice artistic director Alberto Barbera, acknowledging, “Bringing this film here fulfilled a dream of mine and prevented it from being overlooked.”

The Yellowstone star shared that the challenges faced have only intensified his determination to produce the third installment in the franchise. “When things don’t come easily, it’s tempting to walk away, but instead, I find my resolve only growing stronger,” Costner noted. “I believe in this story and its lasting appeal. Even in the face of rejection, my desire to succeed only grows.”

As for the future of the franchise, Costner admitted uncertainty about how Horizon 3 will come together, but he remains committed. “I’m not sure how I’ll make ‘Three’ right now, but I am determined to do it,” he said.

Originally scheduled for an August 16 release, Horizon 2 made its debut at the Venice Film Festival instead, showcasing the film without competition.
