Kevin Costner Faces Growing Legal and Financial Challenges Following ‘Horizon: An American Saga’ Fallout
Kevin Costner is currently facing a major lawsuit stemming from a financial deal gone wrong, putting the Yellowstone star under immense pressure.
The 70-year-old actor stands to lose millions following a bitter dispute tied to his passion project, Horizon: An American Saga.
Investors behind the film—which flopped with audiences despite Costner’s heavy promotion and his personal $38 million investment—are accusing Costner’s team of reneging on their financial agreements. This has led to a tense standoff over who will ultimately bear the financial burden.
Meanwhile, stuntwoman Devyn LaBella, 34, has filed a serious complaint against Costner and the Horizon production companies, alleging she was subjected to a violent and unplanned rape scene during filming. Costner’s legal team denies the claims, calling them “completely baseless,” but insiders reveal that Costner—once valued at around $400 million due to his successful film and TV career—is deeply concerned about how these financial and legal troubles will further drain his dwindling resources.
“Horizon was a catastrophic loss that cost him a significant amount of money and failed to attract viewers,” explains a source. “He’s still recovering from that blow, and now this huge lawsuit threatens to hit him even harder unless his lawyers can pull off a miracle.”
Costner was already financially impacted by his early 2024 divorce from Christine Baumgartner, 51, with whom he shares three children. Although a judge rejected her initial demand for nearly $250,000 a month in child support, he still agreed to pay over $63,000 monthly.
“Even though Kevin avoided the worst of it, he’s committed to paying child support for many years,” says a close source. “It weighs heavily on him. He’s feeling anxious and down about what this new lawsuit means. It’s clear he’s been struggling financially for some time before this legal battle surfaced. He’ll likely have to scale back his lavish lifestyle significantly going forward.”
