Kevin Costner was all smiles as he stepped out with three of his children on Friday for the premiere of Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
The Yellowstone star, 70, was joined by his kids Grace, 14, Hayes, 15, and Cayden, 17 — whom he shares with ex-wife Christine Baumgartner — just a week after news broke of Baumgartner’s engagement to Costner’s former friend, Josh Connor.
Despite reports that he felt “sucker-punched” by the engagement, Costner appeared in good spirits as he posed for photos and promoted his passion project, which has faced a rocky road at the box office.
Costner looked sharp in a dark three-piece suit with a crisp white shirt, standing proudly beside his children. Hayes opted for a sleek black ensemble with white sneakers, while Cayden wore a casual grey long-sleeve with black jeans. Grace looked stylish in a floral dress and beige sandals.
Meanwhile, Baumgartner, 50, was spotted out and about in Santa Barbara on the same day, picking up coffee and offering a glimpse of her engagement ring.
In addition to his children with Baumgartner, Costner is also father to Annie, 40, Lily, 38, and Joe, 37, from his marriage to Cindy Silva, as well as Liam, 28, with former partner Bridget Rooney.
While on the red carpet, Costner was seen catching up with acclaimed director Quentin Tarantino.
Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 marks the second installment of Costner’s ambitious Western series, which he directs and stars in. The first chapter debuted in theaters on June 28, 2024, but struggled critically and commercially, leading to Chapter 2 being pulled from its original August 16 release.
In a statement, Costner’s Territory Pictures and distribution partner New Line Cinema announced the delay was meant to allow audiences more time to discover Chapter 1, which was also released on Premium VOD on July 16.
Costner, who invested $38 million of his own money into the $100 million project, remains committed to the series. He previously acknowledged the risks, saying: “I will own this movie the rest of my life. So will my family. Movies are more than their opening weekend. People will find it — and when they do, they’ll find quality.”
The Oscar-winning actor has plans for four films in total. Chapter 3 began filming in May 2024, and Chapter 4 is already in development.
While Costner focused on his film, Baumgartner was photographed in casual attire during a coffee run, following the engagement news. According to sources, Connor proposed during an intimate dinner in January — less than a year after Baumgartner and Costner finalized their divorce following 19 years of marriage.
Insiders told DailyMail.com that Costner learned about the engagement from his children, describing it as a “betrayal” given his former friendship with Connor.
“Kevin said he felt sucker-punched when his kids told him about the proposal,” a source revealed. “He would’ve preferred to hear it from Christine herself.”
The source added that while Costner is focused on his kids and work, dating isn’t a priority for him right now: “He’s not opposed to it — but if it happens, it happens.”
