Kevin Costner Moves Past ‘Yellowstone’ Drama, Focuses on ‘Horizon’ Saga Revival
Kevin Costner has spent the past few years openly criticizing his former Yellowstone collaborator Taylor Sheridan. However, a source close to the actor reveals that he has since softened his stance. With time healing old wounds, Costner is determined to enter 2025 with no grudges or hostility.
“Kevin is intentionally aiming for a fresh start in 2025,” the source shares. “He’s done fighting with the Yellowstone franchise now that he’s officially left the show. He’s putting all of that behind him and focusing on salvaging his ongoing film project, Horizon: An American Saga, while trying to recover the significant investment he and his partners have made.”
The saga, which has released two out of its planned four films, clashed with Kevin’s schedule on Yellowstone—the root of the dispute between him and series creator Taylor Sheridan, 54. The exact details of who’s at fault remain unclear. Kevin, now 69, claimed that he had already arranged the filming timeline for his passion project before Yellowstone showrunners decided to split season five into two parts, which ended up limiting his availability. Meanwhile, Sheridan argued that Costner was being overly demanding by requesting only a two-week window to film the second half of season five.
In the end, Kevin chose to leave Yellowstone to fully focus on Horizon, though the first film underperformed significantly. “Kevin invested heavily in Horizon, banking on undeveloped land he owns in California,” the source explains. “Reality is setting in that he may need to sell this property and reorganize his assets to stay financially stable after the disappointing performance of the first movie.” The theatrical release of Chapter 2 was canceled after Chapter 1 grossed just $11 million before moving to home video.
Though leaving a hit series for a struggling Western saga might not seem like the smartest move, Kevin remains fully committed to completing the Horizon series.
“His family has been a tremendous support through these financial, creative, and personal challenges,” the source adds. “He wouldn’t be pushing so hard to finish Horizon if his children weren’t fully behind his long-term vision. Even though he’s partly risking their inheritance, they’ve accepted it.”
“The next major focus for Kevin is stabilizing his personal life and finding a partner to share his future with. Once Horizon is wrapped up, he plans to pursue that seriously.”
“But for now, he’s breathing a sigh of relief knowing the Yellowstone drama is truly behind him—and that he’s once again in control of his own destiny.”
