Kevin Costner Stays Busy Amid Divorce from Christine Baumgartner, Despite Feeling “Broken”
In a recent GQ Summer 2024 cover story, Kevin Costner reflected on his 2023 split from Christine Baumgartner, sharing how he managed to film two “Horizon: An American Saga” movies while navigating personal challenges.
At 69, Costner spoke about finding “a level of victory” during a difficult time. Though he didn’t delve into the specifics of his divorce, he acknowledged that “a lot … has happened” in his life recently.
He recounted his internal struggle, saying, “I’m right now looking at myself in the dark and going, ‘Are you going to f–king stand up and finish? Get up, Kevin. Get the f–k up and deal with this and find the joy every day of seeing your kids play while you’re here.’” He emphasized his determination not to lose himself amid the turmoil: “I’ve taken big bites out of life, and life’s taken big ones out of me. I’m not going to lose myself because I’ve been bruised.”
Despite feeling “broken” on a daily basis, the “Yellowstone” star continued to film and fund his projects, recognizing his responsibility to those involved. “No matter how much my heart’s on the ground, I can’t let go of [the] rope,” he stated.
Costner also addressed his role as a working dad, mentioning he must prioritize “the immediate needs of [his] children,” though he chose not to specify further.
He shares three children with ex-wives Cindy Silva and Baumgartner, as well as a son, Liam, with Bridget Rooney. Recently, his children—Annie, 40; Lily, 37; Joe, 36; Cayden, 17; Hayes, 15; and Grace, 13—joined him at the Cannes Film Festival and supported him as he received the Order of Arts and Letters from the Minister of Culture.
Baumgartner filed for divorce in May 2023, leading to nearly a year of contentious court proceedings before settling in February. She has since moved on with financier Josh O’Connor. Costner, meanwhile, has remained tight-lipped about dating rumors involving singer Jewel, who recently described him as a “great person.”
