Kevin Costner, the star of Yellowstone, has made a rare public comment regarding his divorce from ex-wife Christine Baumgartner. The couple, married since 2004, filed for divorce in 2023 and reached a settlement earlier this year. In a recent interview with People, Costner shared that they “just weren’t able to go the distance,” emphasizing the importance of focusing on their children.

“It’s really about the children,” he explained, noting their shared custody of three kids. He also reflected on his previous marriage to Cindy Silva, stating that the challenges of divorce were something he had to consider before marrying again. While he described Baumgartner as a “good partner [and] good mother,” he acknowledged the difficulties they faced.

Costner mentioned that “so many things were in motion” with his work on the upcoming film Horizon: An American Saga, which impacted their relationship. In a separate discussion, he defended casting his son Hayes in the film, explaining that he didn’t automatically give roles to his children. “I needed my family close to me,” he said, adding that Hayes’ performance was beautiful.
