Kevin Costner Opens Up About Possible Retirement One Year After ‘Yellowstone’ Exit

Kevin Costner recently opened up about retirement, one year after his departure from Yellowstone. At 70, the actor made it clear that stepping away from work isn’t on his radar just yet.

“I don’t even think about retiring,” Costner said. “I’ll just move on to whatever sparks my imagination next.”

For Costner, creativity drives his choices—not anyone else’s schedule or demands. “Imagination is what determines what I do, not a boss,” he explained.

Reflecting on his career, he expressed gratitude but acknowledged that everyone’s path is different. “I feel really fortunate in life. I’d like to think I earned it, but not everyone can follow the same blueprint,” he said.

When asked about a bucket list, Costner gave a surprising response. “I do have a list, but I don’t call it that,” he shared. “My eyes and passions remain wide open and full of possibility.”

Costner left Yellowstone in June 2024 after starring in the hit Western series for four and a half seasons. His character, John Dutton, was killed off during Season 5. His exit was reportedly due to creative differences with creator Taylor Sheridan and conflicts with his schedule.

Throughout his long career, Costner has earned two Oscars—Best Picture and Best Director—for his 1990 film Dances With Wolves. He’s also well-known for roles in The Untouchables (1987), Bull Durham (1988), Field of Dreams (1989), JFK (1991), Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991), The Bodyguard (1992), and A Perfect World (1993).
