“Kevin Costner Opens Up About the Emotional Impact of Divorce from Christine Baumgartner”

Kevin Costner was deeply affected by his divorce from Christine Baumgartner. The actor, known for his role in “Horizon: An American Saga,” acknowledged the intense emotional toll of the split and the challenge of moving forward while prioritizing the well-being of their three children.

In an interview with “CBS Mornings,” Costner described the divorce as “a crushing moment.” He reflected, “It was powerful. It hurt. But I have to move forward. My children are watching me, so I can’t just fall apart. I need to stay strong and remain attentive to their needs.” Costner and Baumgartner, who were married for 18 years, finalized their divorce in February following a difficult nine-month legal process. Baumgartner filed for divorce on May 1, 2023, citing “irreconcilable differences,” and the couple reached a settlement in September. In California, there is a mandatory six-month waiting period after filing before a divorce can be completed.

Before the settlement was reached, Costner shared his perspective on the divorce, noting, “There are no winners in this situation. Life can unravel so quickly—one moment you’re on top of the world, and the next you realize just how vulnerable you are.”

Despite the acrimonious start to their separation, which included legal disputes over child support and the validity of their prenuptial agreement, Costner expressed confidence in their ability to co-parent effectively. “Christine is an incredible mom,” he said. “We’ll work things out and share responsibilities. Right now, we just need some time to heal and adjust.”
