Kevin Costner Portrait Sells for $35K in Auction Bidding

Kevin Costner was honored at a special gala held at Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West. The celebrated actor attended the event to receive the Western Spirit Award and participate in a Q&A session, engaging with fans and supporters of the museum. The evening also featured an auction aimed at raising funds to support the museum’s mission.

Todd Bankofier, CEO of Western Spirit, highlighted the importance of the occasion: “Kevin Costner’s deep passion for the West, both in his personal life and his work, perfectly aligns with the Museum’s dedication to preserving the spirit, stories, and artifacts of this pivotal era in American history. We are proud to honor him for his remarkable career, which has so beautifully captured the essence of the Old West.”

Among the auction items were a Yellowstone Dutton Ranch Stetson-style hat from Greeley Hat Works, a Martin X Series acoustic guitar, and a director’s chair—all signed by Costner. The standout piece, however, was a portrait of Kevin Costner painted by artist Mark Maggiori. Inspired by a photograph taken by Cale Glendening on the set of Horizon: An American Saga, the portrait fetched $35,000, with all proceeds benefiting the museum.

Mark Maggiori shared moments from the night on Instagram, writing: “Kevin gave an amazing talk, sharing many stories and insights from his career with a passionate audience. Despite his enormous success, he remains a humble man. Best of all, my little portrait sold for $35k at auction, with all proceeds supporting the museum’s efforts to build this incredible cultural and heritage institution.”

Kevin Costner also posted a video from the event, captioning it: “A fun night celebrating the Spirit of the West with @smowest. I had a blast getting to know @markmaggiori and his huge passion for the American West. He captures it so beautifully in his paintings, and I’m honored to have been the subject of some of his art.”
