Kevin Costner Returns to Yellowstone—But Not How You’d Expect

Kevin Costner Returns to the American Frontier in New Yellowstone-to-Yosemite Docuseries

Kevin Costner is making his return to the Wild West — but not as Yellowstone’s John Dutton.

Following his exit from the hit series ahead of season 5, Costner is stepping into a new role that trades family drama for natural beauty. On February 8, he’ll debut a brand-new three-part docuseries that takes viewers on a breathtaking journey through some of America’s most iconic landscapes. Titled Yellowstone to Yosemite, the series premieres on Fox Nation as part of the “America 250” campaign, celebrating the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026.

In this project, Costner embarks on a sweeping adventure from Yellowstone National Park to Yosemite, retracing the legendary 1903 expedition of President Theodore Roosevelt and naturalist John Muir. As both host and executive producer, he explores the rich natural and cultural history of these landscapes—highlighting the plants, wildlife, and Indigenous heritage that helped shape the National Park System. That system now protects over 230 million acres of treasured land.

Yellowstone to Yosemite marks Costner’s second nature-focused collaboration with Fox Nation. His first, Yellowstone: One-Fifty, premiered in 2022 and commemorated the 150th anniversary of Yellowstone National Park. This latest project continues his deep dive into the American frontier—separate from his upcoming Civil War-era film franchise, Horizon: An American Saga, which began in 2024.

“Once in a while, you come across a story that has that truly special mix of elements; it’s stranger than fiction and happens against all odds,” Costner shared in a press release. “The story of President Teddy Roosevelt and John Muir’s camping trip through Yosemite is one of those truly special ones, and I’m excited to dig into the next chapter of the preservation of the American frontier.”
