“Kevin Costner Reveals Heartfelt Details About the ‘Crushing Moment’ After His Divorce from Christine Baumgartner”

Kevin Costner, star of Yellowstone, has opened up about his divorce from ex-wife Christine Baumgartner, which concluded after 18 years of marriage. Baumgartner filed for divorce in May 2023, and their marriage was officially dissolved in February 2024.

In an interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings, Costner described the aftermath of the divorce as a “crushing moment” that was both “powerful” and painful. Despite the emotional toll, he expressed his determination to move forward for the sake of his three children—Cayden, Hayes, and Grace. “I have no choice — my children are looking at me. So I can’t wilt like a daisy; I have to go forward,” Costner said. He emphasized the importance of maintaining his role as a parent and staying engaged in his children’s lives.

Costner and Baumgartner, who were married in 2004, finalized their divorce in September 2023, reaching an agreement on joint custody of their children. The divorce was officially concluded after Baumgartner’s lawyers requested to be excused from a mandated co-parenting program in a Santa Barbara court.

Reflecting on his personal growth through this challenging period, Costner noted, “You just do it. You just keep talking, you keep coaching [the kids], you keep interested in what they’re interested in … I had to.”

Looking ahead, Costner remains open to the possibility of finding love again, expressing a hopeful outlook: “Yeah, I think everybody would like to be in love. There’s such a good feeling that’s associated with that. It may have to be defined in a different way. But yeah, I love the idea of that possibility.”

Currently, Costner is focused on his career, with his new film Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 now showing in theaters.
