“Kevin Costner Reveals Truth Behind His Departure from ‘Yellowstone'”

Kevin Costner has cleared up misconceptions about his departure from Yellowstone, addressing various rumors and putting them to rest.

In a recent interview with Deadline, the 69-year-old actor dismissed creator Taylor Sheridan’s claims that he was unwilling to return for the second part of Season Five due to his commitment to his own film, Horizon: An American Saga. Instead, Costner shifted the blame to production issues, stating that there was no script available for the second half of the final season after the first part concluded.

Costner explained, “You’ve been hearing one version of this behind-the-scenes drama for a year and a half. I left my movie to be on time for them for Part 5B. I left exactly when they wanted, and it was challenging for me.”

He continued, “It turns out they didn’t have the scripts for 5B. They needed four more days just to complete the first eight episodes. I left early to give them what they needed to finish the first eight, and I felt bad that the audience didn’t get the full ten episodes.”

Costner also refuted claims that he was only willing to film for a week, saying, “There were no scripts. I said, ‘If you want to end this elegantly, the best I can offer is a week. If you can figure out a storyline…’ And that was misinterpreted into, well, he only wants to work a week for the whole season.”

He added, “It’s simply a matter of Paramount and 101 Studios mismanaging the situation. I was committed to doing Seasons 5, 6, and 7. Then they began changing their format.”

Costner wrapped up by affirming, “If the writing is there, I will be there too.”

Part one of the final season of Yellowstone premiered in November 2022, with part two set to debut in November 2024.
