Kevin Costner Shares How He Inspired Son Cayden to Pursue His Dreams in “Horizon: An American Saga”
Kevin Costner is imparting a valuable life lesson to his son.
In an interview with Hollywood Authentic about his new film Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2, the 69-year-old actor shared how he involved his 17-year-old son, Cayden, in the journey of creating the film.
“It’s been a perfect experience, really,” Costner said of the four days they spent together at the 2024 Venice Film Festival, where the movie premiered. “He’s seen me work hard on this project. For his entire life, I’ve talked about it, and now he’s witnessing me not giving up on this dream, actually bringing it to life with two films. He saw the culmination of that.”
He added, “It must be a strange feeling for him to see his dad’s movie playing and the audience applauding. I hope he realizes the importance of holding onto a dream and the value of perseverance.”
Costner shares Cayden, along with Hayes, 15, and Grace, 14, with his now-estranged wife, designer Christine Baumgartner. He also has three adult children—Annie, 40, Lily, 37, and Joe, 36—from his first marriage to Cindy Silva, as well as son Liam, 26, from a previous relationship with Bridget Rooney.
At the premiere of the saga’s first installment, Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1, Costner was joined by his son Hayes, who also appears in the film. When asked about working with his dad, Hayes enthusiastically praised him: “It was so fun! I loved working with him. He taught me everything and directed right by my side; it was amazing to see him in that role.”
Costner seemed visibly moved by his son’s praise. When asked how it felt to receive such compliments from Hayes, he responded, “It feels good,” as he put on sunglasses and wrapped an arm around his son, clearly emotional.
