Kevin Costner, 71, Opens Up About Love After Divorce: What He Wants in a Partner
Kevin Costner is ready to start a new chapter after finalizing his divorce from Christine Baumgartner in February. At the premiere of Horizon: An American Saga, the 71-year-old actor shared what he’s looking for in a future partner: “I want someone who wants to be loved and feels their best when that love is present and uplifting,” he said.
Costner and Baumgartner, 50, were married in 2004 and have three children together: Cayden, 17, Hayes, 15, and Grace, 13. He also has adult children from his first marriage and a 28-year-old son, Liam, from ex Bridget Rooney. Hayes recently made his acting debut, joined on the red carpet by four of his siblings.
Speaking about dating in the public eye, Costner joked about The Golden Bachelor and Golden Bachelorette: “It’s all these beautiful people trying to find love in front of a billion viewers. I have a bit of experience with that.”
The actor also addressed recent dating rumors involving singer Jewel, calling her “special” but clarifying, “Jewel and I are friends—we’ve never dated. I don’t want these rumors to damage our friendship.”
Costner explained the rumors may have started after a trip to Richard Branson’s Necker Island: “I’ve known Richard for years, and he’s been inviting me to his island. I went after my divorce as a single dad. We were just a group of friends, and I want to keep it that way.”
