Kevin Costner Teases Possible Return to ‘Yellowstone’
Kevin Costner Hints at Possible Future for ‘Yellowstone’
The hit Western Yellowstone has always harbored a few secrets, and in recent months, fans have had to sharpen their skills in reading between the lines as rumors about the show’s future shift weekly. Recently, Kevin Costner, who starred in the series for its first four and a half seasons, hinted that while he won’t be returning for Season 5B this November, he hasn’t completely ruled out a return to the ranching drama.
In an interview with ET, Costner described Yellowstone as “a wonderful part of my life,” and added, “Who knows, some things have a way of circling back. I haven’t seen that dust trail coming toward me, but I’ve always been open to what I started. Five seasons was a lot for us to do, and I think that story is not finished.”
He suggested that the series could continue through the children of his character, John Dutton, stating, “Make the story about them.”
While these comments suggest that Costner doesn’t have immediate plans to return, they leave the door open for a potential appearance as the enigmatic Dutton patriarch down the line.
Fans have had a tumultuous journey regarding the fate of John Dutton. Costner first announced his departure from the flagship series in spring 2023 amid rumors of behind-the-scenes tensions and scheduling conflicts. Initially, it was unclear if he would finish out the second half of Season 5 or if we had seen the last of his character. This uncertainty lingered for over a year, with mixed messages from various sources before Costner confirmed his exit in a social media post this June.
Despite this, Costner has consistently expressed a willingness to reprise his role “under the right circumstances.” During promotions for his film Horizon: An American Saga, he indicated that there may still be hope for fans to see more of the land-loving rancher.
Moreover, the recent months have been rife with speculation regarding other cast members. Reports emerged that Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, who play Beth and Rip, are in talks to revive the show for an unexpected sixth season. However, comments from both actors and their co-stars have only added to the confusion about whether the upcoming episodes will indeed mark the series’ end, as previously announced.
