Kevin Costner Teases Possible Return to ‘Yellowstone’: ‘The Story Isn’t Over’

Kevin Costner Hints at Possible Return to “Yellowstone”: “The Story Isn’t Finished”

In a recent interview with ET, Kevin Costner, 69, suggested he may not be entirely done with “Yellowstone.” The Oscar-winning actor described his time on the show as “a wonderful part of my life,” adding, “Who knows, some things have a way of circling back. I haven’t seen that dust trail coming toward me, but I’ve always been open to what I started. Five seasons was a lot for us to do, and I think that story is not finished.”

Costner mentioned that the narrative could continue through his character, John Dutton’s children, implying, “Make the story about them.” The series centers on the Dutton family, owners of Montana’s largest ranch, featuring John and his adult children: Kayce (Luke Grimes), Jamie (Wes Bentley), Beth (Kelly Reilly), and Beth’s husband, Rip (Cole Hauser).

The second half of Season 5 is set to premiere on November 10 on Paramount Network. Although Costner has confirmed he won’t return, he appears in footage from the trailer for the final episodes, providing a voiceover that states, “Legacy. You build something worth having, someone is gonna try and take it.”

Costner’s departure from the series came amid rumors of a feud with showrunner Taylor Sheridan. In May, he criticized the show’s producers for “bulls–t” drama and claimed there were “no scripts” for Season 5. By June, he announced via Instagram that he would not be continuing with the series, as he was focused on his ambitious four-part Western film, “Horizon: An American Saga,” which received mixed reviews and struggled at the box office.

Reflecting on his time with “Yellowstone,” Costner stated, “I loved it and I know you loved it. I just wanted to let you know that I won’t be returning. I love the relationships that I’ve been able to develop. And I’ll see you at the movies.”

Interestingly, discussions of a potential Season 6 have emerged. Reports suggest it could focus on John’s daughter, Beth, and her husband, Rip. However, Paramount has yet to confirm or deny the possibility, and for now, Season 5 is considered “the final season.”

As Costner approaches 70, he shared his thoughts on the upcoming decade, humorously noting he has more free time now that his kids can drive, freeing him from his role as their personal Uber. “That’s gonna free me up,” he joked.
