Kevin Costner’s The West Premieres on Stan – New Trailer Released
Stan today announced the premiere of Kevin Costner’s The West, an epic eight-part documentary series hosted and executive produced by Academy Award® winner Kevin Costner, alongside award-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin. The series will debut with a special triple-episode premiere on May 28, followed by new episodes every Tuesday, only on Stan.
Transcending the traditional “Wild West” narrative, Kevin Costner’s The West delivers a sweeping, multi-perspective exploration of the American West’s formation. Each hour-long episode dives into the fierce competition for land, power, and identity that defined a century of American history.
The series journeys through the rise of iconic figures like Lewis and Clark, Sacagawea, legendary lawmen and outlaws, cowboys, ranchers, pioneering women, abolitionists, and fortune seekers. At the same time, it sheds powerful light on the enduring resistance of Native American tribes — from Chief Little Turtle’s tactical victory over the U.S. Army to the determined defenses of the Blackfeet, Comanche, and Lakota Sioux led by Red Cloud and Crazy Horse.
With rich historical archives, cinematic visuals, and expert commentary from globally recognized historians, each episode presents a compelling chapter in the untold saga of the American West. Among the powerful stories featured is the vigilante legend Joaquin Murrieta, and major events like General “Mad” Anthony Wayne’s counteroffensive that pushed the frontier westward.

Executive producers include Kevin Costner, Rod Lake, and Howard Kaplan for Territory Pictures; Doris Kearns Goodwin and Beth Laski for Pastimes Productions; and Eric Levin, Allie Dvorin, and John Turner for Content Ventures.
