“Kevin Costner’s ‘Horizon: An American Saga’ – What We Know So Far”

Kevin Costner returns to the Western genre with his ambitious film series Horizon: An American Saga. The first installment, which premiered to a stunning 11-minute standing ovation at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, arrives in theaters on June 28, 2024, and will be available for digital streaming on July 16, 2024.

The series, which Costner stars in and directs, explores the American West’s expansion before and after the Civil War, focusing on the interactions between colonizers and Native Americans. The planned four-film saga will feature a blend of interconnected stories, with each film standing alone but contributing to the larger narrative.

Chapter 1 is a three-hour epic. The second film was initially slated for August 16 but has been delayed to give audiences more time to view the first installment. Production for Chapter 3 is underway, and Costner has hinted at a fourth film.

The cast includes Luke Wilson, Tatanka Means, Sienna Miller, Jena Malone, and over 170 speaking roles, with Costner’s son Hayes appearing as Hayes Ellison. Costner has invested $98 million in the first three films, with plans to spend $100 million by the end of the series.
