“Kevin Costner’s ‘Horizon’ Movie Underperforms, Leaving One Actor Disappointed”
Kevin Costner’s latest film, Horizon, has flopped so badly that Luke Wilson is reportedly feeling disheartened by its poor reception. A source told Life & Style Magazine that Wilson was a strong supporter of the project and is upset with the results. “Luke was a true believer when he signed up for Horizon,” the insider revealed. “He fully embraced Kevin’s vision and was hopeful that his fan base would turn this into a surprise summer hit.”
At 52, Wilson stars as Matthew Van Weyden in this ambitious four-part Western directed by Costner, known for his role in The Bodyguard. The first chapter premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in May, but critics were not kind ahead of its general release on June 28. The second chapter recently debuted at the 81st Venice International Film Festival on September 7, with no release dates announced for the third and fourth parts.
Initially, Wilson praised the film, calling it “a great, one-of-a-kind opportunity.” However, it seems his perspective has shifted. “Fast forward a couple of months, and Luke looks like he’s seen a ghost,” the source noted. “He’s been seriously rattled by how poorly the film performed, especially with critics. It’s just baffling to him, and he’s genuinely unsettled by it.”
While Wilson has expressed his disappointment, Costner’s co-stars continue to publicly support both the project and the 69-year-old actor. “You have to wonder if they’re all experiencing what Luke is going through,” the source added. “He’s been completely shaken by the backlash against the movie.”
According to IMDb, Chapter 1 of Horizon explores a 15-year period of pre-and post-Civil War expansion and settlement in the American West, while Chapter 2 delves into the lives of families, friends, and foes as the Civil War divides the nation.
