“Kevin Costner’s Latest Netflix Hit Isn’t a Western – It’s One of His Best!”

Kevin Costner might be navigating new horizons with his upcoming Western epic, but one of his most underrated films has just made its way to Netflix—and it’s far from a cowboy tale.

Long before Costner took on the role of John Dutton in Yellowstone or embarked on his four-part Western saga Horizon, he starred in the beloved 1989 film Field of Dreams. In this iconic sports drama, Costner plays Ray Kinsella, a modest farmer whose life takes a magical turn when he begins receiving messages from deceased baseball legends. These spectral figures inspire him to transform his cornfield into a baseball diamond.

The film’s memorable line, “If you build it, he will come,” has become a classic piece of dialogue and was famously parodied in Wayne’s World 2. With three Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Field of Dreams stands out as one of Costner’s signature films. While his Western roles might be more widely recognized, Field of Dreams is celebrated as one of the best sports movies ever made and ranks among Costner’s top ten highest-rated films on Rotten Tomatoes with an 88% score.

Field of Dreams hit Netflix on September 1, 2024, shortly after news broke that a TV adaptation starring Chris Pratt was in the works. Although that show never materialized, you can still experience this classic film on the streaming platform and witness Costner’s remarkable performance.

The film recently made a comeback in popular culture following the 96th Academy Awards. Comedian John Mulaney humorously referenced it while presenting the award for Best Sound, saying, “I love Field of Dreams, that should win Best Picture…though they’ll probably go with one of this year’s.”
