“Kevin Costner’s Surprise Call Leaves Sienna Miller Starstruck: ‘Be Still My ’90s Heart'”
Sienna Miller’s Surprising Call with Kevin Costner Sparks New Career Path
Sienna Miller, known for her role in “American Sniper,” recently shared how a surprising phone call from Kevin Costner led her to join his ambitious project, “Horizon: An American Saga,” in an interview with Fox News Digital.
“I received a call that made my ’90s heart skip a beat,” Miller, 42, recalled. “It was to discuss a project from Kevin Costner. He sent me four scripts, and I thought it might be for TV, but it turned out to be movies. Then, there he was on Zoom, and I was completely starstruck. We had a wonderful conversation, and by the end, he asked me, ‘Sienna, will you go West with me?’ I was over the moon!”
Miller admitted her longtime admiration for Costner, saying she became a fan after watching “Dances with Wolves.” In fact, she named two of her pet rabbits after characters from the film. “I had Cleopatra, Thumper, Badger, Two Socks, and Cisco,” she shared, mentioning one rabbit named after the wolf and another after Costner’s horse.
“I was obsessed with that movie; it broke my heart,” Miller added.
Her co-star, Sam Worthington, known for his role in “Avatar,” expressed what drew him to Costner’s project. “I enjoy working with directors who take risks and challenge themselves in storytelling,” Worthington, 47, explained. “While this film adopts a more traditional filmmaking style, Costner approaches it with a novelistic lens, focusing on the journey of the characters and the town of Horizon.”
“Horizon” will explore the West before and after the American Civil War, but Costner’s storytelling aims to reflect broader themes about the current state of America. Worthington noted, “Kevin’s narrative reveals a sense of hope in how America was formed, suggesting there’s potential for hope in its future—whether in a Western or science fiction setting.”
“Good movies help us understand our present,” he added, appreciating the hopeful message behind Costner’s work.
Miller experienced a unique challenge while filming the second installment of “Horizon,” as she was pregnant during production. The first film, “Horizon: An American Saga,” is set to release in theaters on June 28, with the second part following on August 16.
“Kevin was incredibly sweet,” she said. “I hadn’t shared my pregnancy news widely, so he made sure to bring me little snacks and drinks. I just needed to eat constantly to feel okay, although there were a few nauseous moments behind the tents.”
