“Kevin Costner’s ‘Yellowstone’ Feud Intensifies Following ‘Horizon’ Setbacks”

“Yellowstone” has officially set a premiere date for the second half of its fifth season, but it will be moving forward without Kevin Costner. Fans will get to see what unfolds next on November 10, almost two years since they last saw their favorite Montana characters. The show may even get a sixth season, according to Deadline, though there is significant debate among the cast about show creator Taylor Sheridan’s decision to not resolve his ongoing conflict with the 69-year-old actor.

“They’re caught between a rock and a hard place,” a source told Life & Style. “They want to stay in Taylor Sheridan’s good graces, but some of them really miss Kevin and believe it was a major mistake not to reach a compromise.” Costner could certainly use a boost after his passion project, Horizon: An American Saga, failed to make a splash at the box office. The second installment of the four-part franchise received a tepid response at the Venice Film Festival after its summer release was delayed. “Kevin knows that Sheridan and others might be taking pleasure in Horizon’s poor numbers, which has only deepened his bitterness and fueled his feud with them,” a second source added. This resentment has exacerbated the Yellowstone dispute, with the cast seemingly divided in their allegiances.

Costner broke his silence in May, expressing his disappointment over Sheridan’s inability to accommodate his Horizon filming schedule. “I haven’t felt good about it over the last year, especially with the way it’s been discussed. It wasn’t truthful,” he told Deadline. “I had a contract for seasons five, six, and seven. In February, after a couple of months of negotiation, they presented a new contract. Instead of seasons six and seven, it was restructured into 5A and 5B, with a possibility of season six. They couldn’t make those changes work, so I had to leave Yellowstone.”

Despite Costner’s reported efforts to gain more control over the story and secure additional compensation, the cast remains divided. “Some cast members think it was a huge mistake to let him go and believe it’s a disaster, while others are relieved to have more spotlight,” the Life & Style source noted.

The real test will be the ratings when the show returns in November. Will viewers miss Costner’s iconic portrayal of John Dutton? Only time will tell.
