Labrador Bobby, Kevin Costner’s Dog, Makes Modeling Debut

Christmas Came Early for Kevin Costner and His Star Pup, Bobby

At 70, Kevin Costner is celebrating the holidays a little differently this year—with his four-legged friend, Bobby, stealing the spotlight. Following his divorce from Christine Baumgartner in February 2024, Costner welcomed a new member into his family later that year: Bobby, a striking English Boxhead Labrador.

The bond between the Horizon star and his new companion was instant—and it didn’t take long before Bobby made his big debut. The handsome pup graced the cover of Dogue magazine’s Christmas issue, showing off his modeling chops in festive fashion. Naturally, a proud Costner couldn’t help but share the moment with fans.

“Bobby making his modeling debut for The Dogue Magazine last year. Love that guy,” Costner posted recently, alongside a sun-drenched photo of himself relaxing beside Bobby. Other snapshots from the shoot feature the snow-white Lab decked out in a holiday-themed harness and hat, giving Dogue readers a peek into his life in sunny Santa Barbara, California.

But Bobby is more than just a pretty face. He’s also been a constant presence on the set of Costner’s ambitious Horizon project, serving as a loyal companion during long days of filming.

“Dogs have been my pals my whole life. I’ve had dogs forever,” Costner shared in his Dogue interview. And when it comes to Bobby, the admiration is mutual. “You can’t meet Bobby and not love him,” he added.

More images from the shoot capture Bobby enjoying the simple things—romping on the beach with fellow pups, scaling coastal rocks, and showing off more cozy winter looks. One particularly charming photo shows the 100-pound Lab curled up in his unexpected favorite spot: the open dishwasher.

Reflecting on Bobby’s quirky habit, Costner laughed, “I have to push him out. He’s too heavy now. He wants to get in there, and he’s not comfortable with me kicking him out.”

With photos this adorable, it’s easy to understand why Bobby’s claimed the dishwasher as his throne.

Why Do Some Dogs Nap in the Dishwasher?

As odd as it sounds, Bobby isn’t alone. Some dogs, including breeds like German Shepherds and Australian Shepherds, are known to cozy up on the dishwasher door. The hard, cool surface may feel soothing to them—and let’s be honest, they love being near their humans.

Others might be drawn in by leftover food smells or the clunky sounds of the machine, turning it into an oddly comforting nap zone. Still, it’s important to keep safety in mind. Dishwashers contain sharp parts and chemical residue that can be harmful to pets.

If your dog—like Bobby—has made the open dishwasher their go-to hangout, make sure they stay out when it’s closed and never run it while they’re nearby. A cute photo op is one thing—but safety comes first.
