“Luke Wilson Reveals How Kevin Costner Left Him Speechless Before New Film ‘Horizon: An American Saga'”

Luke Wilson has long admired Kevin Costner, a Hollywood icon whose work has left an indelible mark on the film industry. Little did Wilson expect that he would one day be cast in a leading role in one of Costner’s most ambitious projects: Horizon: An American Saga. This star-studded Western saga is Costner’s first directorial venture since 2003, making it a deeply personal endeavor for him.

Wilson was taken by surprise when, while working on another film, he received a Zoom call from Costner, who was scouting locations in Utah. What he thought was a job interview turned out to be an offer for a lead role, leaving Wilson momentarily speechless. He will portray Matthew Van Weyden, the captain of a wagon train in both Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 of this epic film series.

Reflecting on his experience working with Costner, Wilson shared how the actor lived up to and even exceeded his expectations. “Growing up in the ’80s, Costner was a major star, following legends like Jack Nicholson and Robert De Niro,” Wilson noted. “I felt a deep connection to his work, much like a fan’s bond with their favorite band. Getting to work with him was truly a dream come true.”

Wilson was impressed by Costner’s down-to-earth nature and work ethic. He described Costner as being much like the characters he portrays on screen: “decent” and “hardworking.” Wilson was particularly struck by Costner’s sensitivity and thoughtfulness as a director, as well as his ability to manage the pressures of a four-part film franchise.

Horizon: An American Saga spans the Civil War years from 1861 to 1865, exploring the complexities of the Old West and the struggles faced during its expansion. The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Sienna Miller, Giovanni Ribisi, Will Patton, Jena Malone, and Australia’s own Sam Worthington.

Wilson praised Costner for maintaining a positive and respectful atmosphere on set, noting that the entire cast and crew were motivated to work hard, not just for the film, but for Costner himself.

Horizon: An American Saga is now available for streaming exclusively on Stan.
