“Luke Wilson Shocked by Kevin Costner’s ‘Horizon’ Box Office Struggles”

Kevin Costner’s much-anticipated passion project, Horizon: An American Saga, has turned into a notable disappointment, impacting other stars involved, particularly actor Luke Wilson.

“Luke was fully committed when he joined Horizon,” reveals an insider to Life & Style. “He bought into Kevin’s vision wholeheartedly, believing that Kevin’s substantial fan base would turn it into an unexpected summer hit.”

In the film, Luke Wilson, 52, portrays Matthew Van Weyden in the four-part Western epic, which is produced, directed, and starred in by the 69-year-old Oscar winner. The first installment debuted at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on May 19, but critics largely panned it before its wide release on June 28. Chapter 2 premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival on September 7, with the third and fourth parts still awaiting release dates.

Despite initial enthusiasm, it seems Wilson’s confidence may have waned with the critical reception. “A couple of months later, Luke looks visibly shaken,” the source discloses. “He’s rattled by the film’s poor reception, especially the critical response. It’s left him quite unsettled.”

Cast members, including Isabelle Fuhrman, Abbey Lee, Georgia MacPhail, and Luke Wilson, have remained supportive of Kevin, but it’s evident that Wilson is deeply affected by the negative feedback. “It’s clear that Luke’s not alone in feeling this way,” the insider adds. “The backlash against the movie has really shaken him.”

Despite Costner’s impressive resume, including two Academy Awards, three Golden Globes, and a Primetime Emmy, the film hasn’t resonated with Hollywood as hoped.

“Kevin was forewarned by marketing experts that the film might face critical backlash, and that’s precisely what happened,” another insider told Life & Style in June. “The harsh reviews from Cannes hit him hard, but Kevin has a history of overcoming such challenges, as seen with his 1992 hit The Bodyguard.”

The source further noted, “What frustrates Kevin most is the lack of support from the industry, despite his significant contributions to Hollywood and the Western genre.”

Nevertheless, Costner remains optimistic. “He’s a man of faith and perseverance. Even if the industry isn’t rallying behind him, he’s confident in his ability to connect with audiences through his unique vision and steadfast principles,” the source concludes. “While he’s faced flops before, the films that cemented his legacy often began as underdogs.”
