“Marisa Ramirez Reflects on Her ‘Blue Bloods’ Journey and What She Thinks About the Show’s Finale”
“End of Tour” – The Reagan family is in full force as they race to prevent catastrophic chaos in New York when the city’s gangs unite and demand amnesty for the release of their incarcerated members and those awaiting trial.
I had the chance to sit down with Marisa Ramirez, where she shared her journey on Blue Bloods, including her deep connection with Donnie Wahlberg, her final day on set, the lasting impact of playing Maria Baez, her thoughts on the show’s ending, and much more. Keep reading for our full conversation!
The Chemistry with Donnie Wahlberg:
I spoke with Donnie earlier this season, and he had nothing but praise for you. I wanted to ask, what has it been like to develop that partnership with him on-screen? Baez and Danny were such a great pairing, and it’s one of my personal favorite aspects of the show.
Marisa Ramirez: Oh wow, you’re making me teary-eyed already! Donnie is such a beautiful human being, and we clicked from day one. We were both really open and genuine with each other, and that blossomed into an incredible friendship. I feel so fortunate to have had that bond with him. I’m not sure what the dynamic is like for other actors, but our partnership was really unique. We had so much fun together, and that energy translated into our work. We could infuse our own fun into the scripts, adding little details and moments that felt authentic to us. It made our relationship on-screen feel even more real, and we were given the freedom to explore that.
Now that the show is ending, it’s bittersweet. Not seeing Donnie almost every day, not FaceTiming him… it’s such a big change. Spending 16-hour days together really builds a special bond. I know what he likes for lunch, we have so many shared memories, and I’ve learned so much from him. He’s incredibly generous with his advice, and I soaked it all in. I would constantly ask him for his thoughts—“Was that okay? Do you think it worked?”—because I really valued his input.
Advice for Maria Baez:
If you had the chance to give Maria some final advice, what would you say to her?
Marisa Ramirez: Oh gosh, that’s a tough one! Honestly, I’d say, take a vacation with your partner—just get away to an island somewhere and enjoy each other’s company. Maybe even bring along Vanessa and Will or Jamko, too. It’s hard to say exactly what advice I’d give her, but a vacation sounds like a good idea to me. They all deserve a break!
Fans and Memorable Interactions:
One thing I love about Blue Bloods is the amazing fan support. When it was announced that this would be the final season, fans were really hoping to save it because they didn’t want to let go. Since you filmed in New York, did you have any memorable fan experiences?
Marisa Ramirez: In New York, I didn’t get recognized all that much, but people would approach me for directions! They’d ask, “Do you know where the L Train is? Or where a Starbucks is?” I guess I just have one of those faces! It was sweet and kind of funny, and after a while, I felt really confident giving directions because I knew the city so well by then. But what really stands out to me is the warmth of the fans. A man came up to me just yesterday while I was grocery shopping with my daughter, and he simply said, “God bless your family.” It was such a kind, heartfelt moment, especially in today’s world. That interaction really stuck with me. It was just so sweet, and I’ll carry that kindness with me.
